2/25/2007 - Laminating the Altitude Bearings
Previous Entry
Next Entry
One other thing I did this weekend was apply the Ebony Star formica to the Cast Aluminum Altitude Bearings discussed in the 2/21 entry. Ebony Star is a textured formica that when coupled with Virgin Teflon at 15 PSI and a WELL BALANCED scope, produces that buttery smooth, stops when you stop, moves when you move action that Obsession telescopes are so well known for.
ENTRY PICTURES
Ebony Star formica can be seen on the left, bearings on the right with surfaces cleaned and prepped. Yes, that IS a beer on the bench!....two actually, can you find the other?
First strip of Ebony Star ready for Contact Cement.
First bearing has Ebony Star applied, my brother is clamping everything for good measure while the cement sets.
Second bearing's lamination complete and clamped. Once the cement has cured thoroughly, we'll use a router to trip the excess and these bearings will be all ready for the mirror box.
