3/18/2007 - The Secondary Cage Part III: It all comes together! (D)
Previous Entry
Next Entry
Here you'll see the final assembly of the Secondary Cage. Upper pole clamps are attached, Kydex is installed and trimmed, and the Secondary Spider and Mirror are installed. A note for those of you attempting a project with Kydex. Put the Kydex in the fridge (or outside in the snow in my case!) to shrink it such that when installed on the double-sided tape it will warm and expand to create a nice, snug fit.

Completed Cage frame and focuser board now ready for the upper pole clamps to be installed. These clamps from Obsession have cam-type wedges for one step attachment. Note the double-sided tape inside rings and along focuser board centerline. The Kydex will attach to this tape.
Trimming the Kydex after installation.
The finished cage. Look at the knife edge profile that the Protostar spider vanes have....they almost disappear yet the mirror holder is held very rigidly.
A Tale of Two Secondary Cages. The Secondary Cage to my 13.1 inch scope on the left, my 20 scope on the right. YIKES!!!
